Tentacled Whispers From Beneath

Dead tree remains tell an old story, perhaps older than one might assume. Even older ulterior stories are told by tree remains who hide beneath the dark surface of water. For how long have they loomed there and for how long will they continue to do so? For what purpose and what dark message do they bring from beneath the shrouded cover of the lake?

This is from Skjellbreia in Bymarka, Norway just some weeks ago, probably on the last warm day of autumn in Trondheim. This was so far the most physically challenging photo I had to take, because it required me to crawl on an unsteady collection of moss, dirt and branches, while at the same time trying to keep the tripod and the camera steady, and keep them from flipping over and falling into the water. And finally I had to keep my left foot extended and surpressing a bunch of tall grass and branches that were blocking the view. The scene just 15 minutes later filled with fog, because the cold night air started spreading above the warmer water. I have a picture of that too, but for some to me to entirely unexplainable reason I moved half a meter to the right, messing up the position of the foreground and losing a lot of interesting detail.
